What is Mind + Body Nutrition?
We often think about nutrition in terms of how it affects the body because we can really clearly see that relationship. If you eat too much, you're going to gain weight and if you eat too little, you're going to lose weight. We don't think about as often how much nutrition affects the mind because it's very difficult to its direct affect on the brain in the same way that we can see its direct affect on the body. The truth is that nutrition impacts the mind just as much as it impacts the body. That's why at Atlas we use ingredients that help both the mind and the body thrive.
How does Atlas use a science-backed approach?
All Atlas innovation is science-backed. We're very thoughtful and intentional about every single ingredient that we use. Each ingredient is thoroughly vetted and researched to ensure that there is some functional benefit to either the mind or the body.
Why did you start Atlas?
I started Atlas out of frustration with the options that were available on the market. Either there were bars that tasted great but they were full of chemicals and sugar or there were bars that were great for you but they tasted like dirt. I wanted something that had awesome nutritionals, really high quality ingredients, and was something that I actually looked forward to eating every single day. On top of that, I wanted to make something that made myself and others better with each bite. That's why I started Atlas.
How did you start Atlas?
I initially started the brand with the help of my mom, Ann Marie, who happens to be an unbelievable cook and she helped me make the initial prototypes of the product in our home kitchen. Once we made those prototypes, I had enough confidence to use $5000 that I had saved from landscaping, driving Uber, and selling knives - I used that money to buy a few thousand bars. I took those few thousand bars and started selling them around the Boston Area going gym to gym, door to door, and barbell to barbell sampling the product and building the brand.
What does Fuel The Impossible mean?
Fueling The Impossible is exactly what it sounds like. With the right fuel, you can push past boundaries that you previously thought were impossible. Whether that's running a marathon or just running your errands, whatever impossible means to you - we'll help you fuel it.
Where does the name Atlas come from?
In Greek mythology, Atlas is the titan of endurance who's tasked with carrying the world on his shoulders for all of eternity. He represents perseverance and our goal is to help you persevere through whatever obstacles you're facing with better nutrition.
Ingredients
What are the ingredients?
Every recipe starts with a nut butter combined with a protein (grass-fed whey or plant-based) to make our base. From there, we add natural ingredients like tapioca fiber, vegetable glycerin, and sunflower lecithin to boost nutrition and improve texture. To add flavor, we use Himalayan salt, monk fruit, natural extracts, and inclusions like chocolate chips or raspberries.
What is Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha is an herb that's been used in India for over 5000 years to promote mental wellbeing. Modern studies have confirmed ashwagandha's unique ability to reduce stress and improve mood. That's why we make it a key ingredient in every single Atlas Bar!
Why does grass-fed whey matter?
Conventional whey protein comes from feedlot-raised cows who are fed a genetically-modified corn diet. Our grass-fed whey protein comes from pasture-raised cows who are fed a grass diet, which results in a cleaner and more nutrient dense whey protein for you.
Why does protein quality matter?
Not all proteins are created equal. Depending on the source of the protein, it's going to be digested differently by your body. Researchers have developed a few different ways for measuring this, one of which is called the Protein Digestibility Amino Acid Score or PDCAAS for short. This score ranges on a scale of 0 to 1 with1 being the highest. The reason that we use whey protein is because whey protein scores a perfect 1 and is one of the few proteins to do so, which means that it has maximum absorbability and usability by your body.
Is the fiber used an isomalooligosaccharide (IMO)?
Nope! We use a resistant starch tapioca fiber that won’t spike your blood sugar levels. It’s low glycemic and safe for people with diabetes.
What is vegetable glycerin?
Vegetable glycerin is a clear syrup that has a sweet taste and no odor. We use responsibly sourced palm oil for our vegetable glycerin as it adds moisture and a little sweetness to the bars!
What is the Never List?
Our Never List is the list of ingredients that we will never use like aspartame, sucralose, and artificial colors. We don't use these ingredients because research has shown that consuming these ingredients may have negative health consequences over the long-term. You can find the full list on our site.
Nutrition
Are they keto?
The ketogenic diet is a diet that's designed to put you into a state of ketosis, which means that your body is going to be burning fat as opposed to glucose as fuel. In order to achieve ketosis, research has shown that you need to consume 50 grams of net carbs a day or fewer. Atlas Bars are designed with this in mind at just 3-5 grams of net carbs which are well within a ketogenic framework.
Do they have sugar?
Atlas Bars contain zero added sugar and only 1-3g of naturally occurring sugar from the nuts and grass-fed protein blend, making them safe for people with diabetes.
Why is Zero Added Sugar important?
Every Atlas product contains zero grams of added sugar. The reason why is because added sugar consumption has been strongly linked with a number of negative health consequences like obesity, diabetes, and inflammation.
What are net carbs?
Net carbs are total carbs minus the carbs that your body can't digest - like fiber. Net carbs are a measure of the carbs that actually impact your blood sugar levels. The reason why that's important is because the lower you keep your net carbs, the lower your blood sugar levels are going to be. The more low and stable your blood sugar levels, the more stable your focus, your energy and your mood are going to be. At Atlas, we design each product to have as few net carbs as possible so that you can experience those benefits.
How much ashwagandha is in each bar?
We use 300mg of organic KSM-66 Ashwagandha in each bar! Why 300mg? Clinical studies examining ashwagandha's effectiveness show successful reductions of stress symptoms anywhere between 150 mg up to 500 mg.
