As it's now been over 6 months since I began sending out this newsletter, I'd love to get your feedback. I've created a 5 question survey that will help me make it even better and more relevant to you. The survey be found here and, as a thank you for your time, you'll get $5 credited to your Atlas account for completing it.

I appreciate your valuable input!

Calories Burned

The body burns calories when it digests food. Depending on the food, the body will burn more or less calories during digestion.

The scientific name for this phenomenon is "Diet Induced Thermogensis" (DIT). DIT is a reason why a higher-protein diet could be helpful if your goal is to limit/reduce your caloric intake.

1. Fish Oil

Inflammation is linked with almost every major disease in our modern world. Over 36K studies (🤯) have proven fish oil, specifically the omega-3 EPA in fish oil, to mitigate inflammation in both our bodies and brains. Studies have shown that regular fish oil supplementation can reduce blood triglycerides by up to 30%¹ and can be as effective as some pharmaceuticals at treating depression². Fish oil appears to be a low-cost and natural way to improve both mind + body health. I take 1000mg of EPA per day.

2. Rational Optimist

If you're looking for a reason to be optimistic about the future, I highly suggest reading this book. Not coincidentally, I read it during the depths of COVID last winter and it immediately improved my outlook.

Despite the common narrative that the world is becoming a worse and worse place, there is substantial evidence that suggests the opposite. In fact, based on almost all data, now is the best time in human history to be alive. I particularly enjoyed the quality of life comparison between King Louis XIV and an average, modern French citizen (pg. 36 paperback).

3. America The Beautiful (Park Pass)

America arguably contains the most diverse array of landscapes out of any country in the world. From snow-capped mountains to barren deserts to lush rainforests, virtually every natural environment can be found in the US' borders. Not only do we have these amazing environments, but we also have dozens of national parks that allow us to explore them. These parks contain some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet and, with a National Park Pass, you have access to all of them for a year for just $80!
